In July 2021, Henry packed his bags and moved to Nashville, TN from his long-time home in (the suburbs of) Chicago, IL. He wasn't moving for love though—he was moving for a job. But before he could get acquainted with Music City or his new gig, he matched with Iris on the dating app, Bumble. She had lived in Tennessee for 7 years and was excited to meet a Chicago guy who thought "boneless wings aren't wings—they're nuggets." Henry, too, wanted to meet the Atlanta girl who "loved working out and going to museums (ok, sort of)." But would they be the right match?
Yes. Fast forward to September 2021 when Henry and Iris finally met up for drinks. They weren't sure if they'd ever go out, but once they did, Iris quickly became Henry's Nashville guide—and girlfriend. They dated for months before taking the big step... of introducing their dogs and getting an apartment together in May 2022.
Fast forward another year when Henry and Iris start taking their love to new places. They traveled to Mexico, Alaska, Canada, and more. They adopted a pup and named her Luna. They attended family reunions, concerts, and weddings, but an event in August would change everything.
It rained all month long, but on Tuesday, August 15, the day was clear and beautiful. The couple had planned to go out and grab food at an "Instagram-worthy" place, but Henry had something else in mind. He took Iris to Riverfront Park where he had set up a picnic in front of the Nashville skyline. But before they sat down, Henry kneeled down—and asked Iris to marry him. Of course she said yes.
The two will get married on August 24, 2024—just over a year later. They're excited to begin this next chapter of life surrounded by family, friends, and in the city where they met 3 years ago. Who knew a move to Nashville would lead to a match, and that match would become a marriage.
See you in August.
